Personal Trainers, The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) is a community service organization offering programs for people of all ages. They welcome those of different races, religions, backgrounds and are especially focused on helping children and families.
Personal Trainers at the YMCA offer tailored packages designed to help you meet your fitness goals safely and swiftly.
YMCA Wellness Orientation
Become a new member? Make an appointment for a complimentary Health and Wellness Orientation to meet with one-on-one with a trainer who can assist with setting goals, teaching how to use strength and cardio equipment, and giving a better understanding of all that the Y has to offer. This service is open to members aged 14 or above while children ages 10-12 must complete a Youth Wellness Orientation before accessing the Wellness Center (parent/guardian must be present).
Personal training sessions at the Y are available in 1-, 4-, 8- and 12-session packages for members to meet their fitness goals no matter where they’re at in their fitness journey. With our Coach Finder tool you can locate one who best matches your needs; all members also qualify for two complimentary Fitness Consultations annually! Get started today!
Small Group Training
Small group training (SGT) is an alternative form of personal training that works by pairing participants in classes of four to ten people with one trainer for more focused one-on-one sessions. SGT classes tend to be more affordable and comfortable than traditional fitness classes.
Small group training allows clients to come together with similar goals in mind and support each other while working toward them. The camaraderie between participants helps motivate them to push harder, reaching results quicker than they would by themselves. Plus, this form of exercise tends to be cheaper than its individual counterpart while accommodating various fitness levels.
Trainers in this program are nationally certified to ensure they possess the knowledge and expertise to design a wellness program tailored specifically for their clients. Trainers provide members with training on various exercises as well as tailored workout plans designed to help reach their goals more quickly. Small group training sessions can be found at numerous Y locations and each session typically lasts 60 minutes.
One-on-One Training
Your fitness journey will reach new heights with the support of a nationally certified personal trainer. From recovering from injuries, building muscle or improving flexibility to setting realistic goals and providing motivational guidance – our trainers will assist you to set achievable targets that lead to results. Sessions are available either individually or as small group training, with new members receiving two complimentary personal training sessions as part of their membership package.
Personal training is called one-on-one for a reason: you benefit from personalized advice, guidance and motivation from your trainer, creating an individualized program to fit into your busy lifestyle and schedule.
Virtual training can also be an ideal solution for clients living far from State College or unable to make it into the Y. Our award-winning trainers still provide full-body workouts while providing individual fitness instruction and motivation – something included with all training packages.
Pilates
Pilates, often associated with its “long and lean” aesthetic, is far more than simply mat exercises; it’s an entire system of fitness which includes special equipment that provides challenges at every fitness level.
Pilates differs from other strength training workouts in that its focus is listening to your body rather than forcing yourself past its limits. By including Pilates into your training plan, it can prevent overuse injuries while simultaneously making you stronger, more confident, and balanced in daily activities.
The Y also offers group classes such as Workout of the Day (WODs), which feature barbell movements such as snatches, clean and jerks and thrusters to get your heart rate pumping and muscles moving while socializing with other members. And for an additional boost of motivation or one-on-one instruction in any of your favorite sports or hobbies.
